Technical Standards Assistant

Job Title: Technical Standards Assistant
Location: Birmingham
Reports to: Group Technical Manager

Scope of Role:

Reporting to the Group Technical Manager you will support the technical team in maintaining and enhancing technical standards across all production and retail sites on day to day basis

You will work closely with other QA auditors, marketing, NPD, production, purchasing, support and operations staff to drive product quality, legality, consistency and document accuracy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and updating the sites allergen documentation
  • Investigating food related internal and external complaints: Process Audits/analysis/trending/recording
  • Investigating supplier external non-conformances
  • Offer day to day support with regular questions and queries on products and ingredients
  • Offer day to day support with the goods in approval process and checks ensuring intake specs are available
  • Maintaining the raw material specification matrix and raw material risk assessment systems
  • Maintaining the upkeep of supplier approval and monitoring system
  • Liaising with NPD to produce new product specifications and update product folders
  • Assist with microbiological testing and monitoring
  • Record, trend and communicate internal food product waste
  • Day to day technical team support

Key Skills, Competencies and Experience Required

  • Have a Food Science or related qualification?
  • Understanding of legality’s with food law legislation and changes
  • Experience in a technical / quality assurance role in a food manufacturing environment
  • High ability to concentrate on tasks and notice inaccuracies or unlikely anomalies
  • Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work quickly and methodically
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Experience of Microsoft packages
  • Committed, disciplined, flexible and well organised
  • Reliable and professional with a passion for food
  • Ability to multi task and to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment
